Brother Larry Lane Windham, 71, of Grenada passed away Sunday, February 26, 2017, at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He was born March 12, 1945, in Carroll County to the late Ernest Leslie Windham and Sarah Corder Windham. He received a Master's in Theology from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary and became the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in 1976, where he served for forty years. Bro. Windham loved sharing the gospel of Christ through his sermons, daily devotions on the radio, and his publications. Despite being sick, he was active in the pulpit, preaching his last sermon a month ago. Bro. Windham was also co-editor of The Word of Life Messenger, a gospel paper distributed across Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee. He also wrote several articles including Glorifying the Cross and Looking onto Jesus. Mission work at home and abroad was very important to him. He served as a member of the advisory board for Sail of Hope International, a non-profit serving the countries of Russia, Ukraine, China, Africa, and Mexico. During his life, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who leaves a legacy of teaching and loving others.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 2, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Grenada. Interment will follow in the Grenada Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday evening at Calvary Baptist Church in Grenada and one hour prior to the service Thursday at First Baptist Church - Grenada.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Vickery Windham of Grenada; two daughters, Rebecca Windham Carmack of Arlington, TN and Amy Windham Howe(Robbie) of Leland; one son, Michael Windham(Kristy) of Trussville, AL; mother, Sarah Corder Windham of Grenada; and eight grandchildren, Taylor Howe, Reed Howe, Sarah Ann Carmack, Emily Bryan, Landon Bryan, Allie Bryan, Karlee Windham and Carson Windham.
