Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Agent Lee Tartt, 44, of Grenada, died honorably in the line of duty Saturday, February 20, 2016 in Tishomingo County. He was born December 15, 1971 in Grenada to James Perry "Buddy" and Jean Tutor Tartt. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and earned a degree in Criminal Justice at Delta State University. Lee joined the Grenada Police Department in 1994 and then in 2000, joined the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics. He was recognized in 2011 as MBN's Agent of the Year and again in 2012 when he received the H. Lane Caldwell Award for Valor.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada with Dr. Brian Robertson, Dr. Bob Self and Rev. Sherman Barnette officiating. Interment will follow in the Smith Cemetery at Rosebloom. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 PM Monday evening at Friendship Baptist Church and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah Harbin Tartt; one daughter, Lauren Harbin; one son, Landon Harbin; his father, James P. "Buddy" Tartt of Grenada; one sister, Sara Lynn Tartt McKay and her husband, Hank of Birmingham, AL; and a brother, Keith Tartt and his wife, Sharon of Grenada.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Tutor Tartt.
Pallbearers will be Mark Beck, Dan Brown, Brian Ely, Adam Eubanks, Mike Perkins and Seth Waggoner. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Mississippi Highway Patrol Honor Guard and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Honor Guard.
Memorials may be directed to the Agent's Benevolence Association Scholarship Fund or the Smith Cemetery Fund.
