Mrs. Leora Ransom Sykes, 91, of Grenada, formerly of Duck Hill, passed away Monday, September 28, 2015 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was born December 9, 1923 to Wheeler and Ethel Bennett Ransom. She was a former City Clerk for the City of Duck Hill and a member of Duck Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Sykes was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and an avid reader and quilt maker.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 1, 2015 from the Chapel of McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service with Rev. Barry Worrell and Rev. Tim Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow in the Duck Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Survivors include a daughter, Lyndia Sivley(John) of Grenada; a son, Robert "Jason" Sykes, Jr.(Dot) of Vicksburg; five grandchildren, Robert Jackson(Teresa) of Grenada, Michael Jackson (Teresa) of Winona, Danny Sivley(Lisa) of Hattiesburg, Robin Purvis of Olive Branch and Jay Sykes(Sara) of Vicksburg; eleven great-grandchildren, Morgan and Robbie Jackson, Corey Miletello(Matt) and Tanner Jackson, Katie and Kros Sivley, Caden, Caitlyn and Cameron Purvis, and Allyson and Ryan Sykes; a sister-in-law, Mary Windham of Gulfport and a host of nieces and nephews.
Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
