Obituary

Lula Mae Moltz Thomas, age 101 of Duck Hill, MS passed away on December 19, 2018. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 21, from 12:30 to 2:00 pm at McKibben & Guinn Funeral Home, 4817 Commerce St., Grenada, MS.  Funeral services will be held immediately afterwards at the funeral home with Pastors Travis Gray and Tim Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow in the Duck Hill Cemetery.

Lula Mae was born on January 29, 1917,  to Peter Moltz and Annie Uhr Moltz at their home in the Leissner Community in Guadalupe County, Sequin, Texas.  She grew up on the farm, attended Leissner School then went on to graduate from Seguin High School in 1935.

Lula Mae married James Russell Thomas on July 31, 1938, who at the time was in the Army Air Corps and stationed at Randolph Field in San Antonia, Texas. Later Lula Mae and Russell moved to Duck Hill, MS, where they were members of Duck Hill Baptist Church. Lula Mae was a homemaker; worked several years at the Hosiery Mill in Grenada; and then later with the US Postal Service until she retired.

Lula Mae is preceded in death by her husband, James Russell Thomas, her son Russell Lon Thomas (affectionately called Nonny), her parents, her brother Elmer Moltz and wife Mildred, sisters Romie Moltz Heinemeyer and husband George, Mellin Moltz, Ilene Moltz, and Sylvia Moltz Engler and her husband George. Survivors include her sons David Dee Thomas and wife Carolyn and Stephen Jordan Thomas and wife Wanda; daughter-in-law Lena Lou Linn Thomas; grandchildren Lon Thomas and wife Kellie, Jenny Thomas Gibson and husband Jim, Susanna Thomas Westin and husband Neil and Zach Thomas and wife Shana; great grandchildren Mathew, Sam, and Annie Gibson; Rachel, Hannah, and Russell Thomas; Ellis Ann Westin and Madelyn Rae Thomas; numerous nieces and nephews, other loving family members and many friends.

Serving as pallbearers are Robert Lynn Rose, Kirk Tyler, Keith Norris, Ricky Swanson, Gary Waugh, and Andy Lane.  Honorary pallbearers: Holly Piner and Danny Bollinger.

The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Roberts of Grenada, Debbie Mitchell, Director of Providence Assisted Living Center in Grenada and her staff; and Legacy Hospice Care of Grenada.

The family requests memorial contributions to the Duck Hill Cemetery Fund in care of Duck Hill Bank, P.O. Box 186, Duck Hill, MS 38925.
