Obituary

Margaret ("Maggie") Arnold James, 81, of Grenada, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Providence Assisted Living. She was born October 12, 1943, in Lafayette County, MS to Irel Henry and Mamie Jean Neal Arnold.

Maggie worked at the University of Mississippi J.D. Williams Library for five years. She loved Oxford and was a huge fan of the Ole Miss Rebels. She never missed a game, even when she could not go in person, and when she did attend in person, she stayed until the very end. She especially loved watching the Pride of the South Marching Band, an organization she proudly supported.

Maggie worked in health sciences for more than 25 years – in case management at St. Joseph's Hospital and as an administrative assistant in Allied Health at Baptist College of Health Sciences in Memphis, TN, where she retired in 2014.

After her retirement, she moved to Grenada, MS, where she was an active member of the Grenada Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution and the Grenada Garden Club. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, but always joked that she was "on loan" to the All Saints Episcopal Church, where she volunteered at their food pantry.

Maggie loved spending time with her family. She was known by many as "Mimi," a nickname lovingly given to her by her grandchildren, but adopted by friends and family alike.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at noon on Monday, November 25, 2024 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Grenada. Interment will follow in the Tula Cemetery in Tula, MS. A Rosary will be held in Maggie's memory at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 25, 2024 at St. Peter's Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until service Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church.

Survivors include her three daughters, Lisa Thomas (Wesley) of Grenada, Carla Fox (Paul) of Somerville, TN, and Diana Rumrill (Bob) of Rainbow City, AL; grandchildren Jordan Thomas, Ellen Thomas, Caroline Alderson, Anna Bruno, James Bruno, Vincent Bruno, Robert Rumrill (Sheri), Ryan Rumrill (Natasha), Ranger Rumrill (Katelyn); great-grandchildren Jasper, Cade, Claire, Keeton, and Rylie Rumrill; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Maggie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Malcolm James; son, Jimmy Bruno; and grandsons, Brett Alderson and Riley Rumrill.

The family would like to thank Providence Assisted Living and her sitters Sarah McClain and Kierra Meeks for the wonderful care they provided in her final days.

Memorial donations can be made to the Grenada Chapter DAR or All Saints Food Pantr y.
