Obituary

Mrs. Margie Ruth Barron Smith, 91, formerly of Greenville, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at her residence.  She was born May 1, 1931 in Huntsville, AL to Barney E. and Alma Faye Jones Barron.  Margie enjoyed a 32-year-long career as an operator at South Central Bell.  Following her retirement from the phone company, she devoted the rest of her life as a homemaker and traveling with her husband with his work.  Margie was an excellent cook and enjoyed sharing delicious meals she prepared with her family and friends.  She was a loving wife and mother and her home was a place where everyone felt welcome.   She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Telephone Pioneers.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 4, 2023 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service with Rev. Mark Luther officiating.  Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service Saturday at McKibben and Guinn.  The committal service will be at 3:00 PM Saturday at the Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home – Greenville.

Survivors include her daughter, Martha Sue Smith Kuhn; brother, B. Frank Barron(Hazel); grandchildren, Edward Kuhn(Crystal) and Michelle "Miki" Lewis(Chris); and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester Frank Smith; son-in-law, David "Dee" Kuhn; sister, Helen Green(Bennie) and two brothers, Charles Barron(Libby) and James "Jim" Barron(Linda).

The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of Legacy Hospice for the exceptional care provided to Margie.
