Obituary

In the early morning hours of Sunday, November 28, 2021, Mrs. Marjorie Mae Tartt Melton heard the words she had longed to hear for so many years – "Well done, good and faithful servant", as she entered peacefully into Heaven.  A member of the "Greatest Generation", she was born December 20, 1925 in Grenada to Willie James and Bertha Costilow Tartt.  Marjorie knew the value of hard work and gave of herself 100% in everything that she did.  She had worked for a number of years in the knitting department at Pennaco Hosiery in Grenada.  Marjorie was a devoted member of the Grenada Church of God since 1963 serving as Secretary in the Sunday School, Family Training Hour and Vacation Bible School Departments.  She was instrumental in church fundraising always being the top-seller for any fundraising activity for her church.  While her absence leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of those she loved, we find comfort in knowing she is more alive today than she has ever been and at home in Heaven.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the Grenada Church of God with Rev. James McElroy officiating.  Interment will follow in the Smith Cemetery in the Rosebloom Community of Tallahatchie County.  Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

Survivors include five grandchildren, Kay Starnes, Judy Armstrong, Lois Doss, Jerry Melton and Magan Emrick; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Frances Ruppert of Millington, TN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew "Pete" Melton; son, Cecil Melton; infant daughter, Frances Pearl Melton; and two brothers, Ray and James Tartt.

Pallbearers will be Reece Bailey, Herby Bloodworth, Barry Campbell, Tate Glenn, Lee Hoop and Don Pyron.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Armstrong, Charles Arnold and John Brown.
