Obituary

Mr. Mark Sanders Mattox, 73, of Grenada, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at his residence, surrounded by his wife and children.  He was born September 22, 1950 in Oakland, CA to Stanny Sanders and Norma Gloria Harding Mattox.  Mark was the founder and owner of EMC, Inc., a Grenada-based land and hydrographic surveying firm which performs professional survey work across the nation.  He was a Professional Land Surveyor and Certified Hydrographer.  Mr. Mattox honorably served our country in the U.S. Army Reserves.  Mark obtained his pilot's license and enjoyed flying, hunting and bird watching in his spare time.  He also enjoyed boating and had traveled extensively in his RV in recent years.  Above all, Mark was a devoted family man and enjoyed any time that he spent with his family.  A faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Mark held in his soul the cure to death, a relationship with Jesus Christ.  He loved to share his faith with others and even during the most difficult times of his 44-month long battle with cancer, he never failed to tell a member of his treatment team or hospital staff "God Bless You." because he always wanted others to know that they were appreciated and were loved by God.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 27, 2023 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada with Dr. Brent Barker officiating.  Interment will follow in the Moore's Memorial Cemetery in Carroll County.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday evening and one hour prior to the service Friday all at Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Patsy Goss Mattox; and five children, Jonathan Mattox(Carmen) of Oxford, Suzy Winstead of Grenada, Melody Macon(Kevin) of Brandon, Josh Mattox(Marie) of Grenada and Jake Mattox of Grenada; one sister, Lynn Wessman(Ben) of Carrollton; one brother, Lee Mattox(Gena) of Madison; 14 grandchildren, Lane Barry(Kassidy), Brantley Shaw(Madison), Caleb Barry, Dalton Winstead, Brianna Shaw, Braylee Shaw, Hudson Mattox, Blake Mattox, Sanders Mattox, Abbie Mattox, Allie Mattox, Carter Mattox, Kohen Mattox and Joanna Mattox; and a great-grandchild, Everleigh Barry.
