Parker
February 18, 1927 – August 20, 2018
Mrs. Martha Spears Parker, 91, a long-time resident of Coffeeville and widow of H.T. Parker passed away Monday, August 20, 2018 at Yalobusha General Nursing Home in Water Valley. She was born on February 18, 1927, in Coffeeville to Jesse James Spears and Annie Broadstreet Spears. She spent her entire life in Coffeeville, graduating from Coffeeville High School in 1944 and going to work immediately to help support her mother and three younger siblings during World War II. She married in June of 1947, and, after her young daughters became school age, went to work for the Coffeeville Office, Bank of Water Valley, retiring from that same banking system, that was by then Renasant Bank, in 1995.
Mrs. Parker was an active member of First Baptist Church, Coffeeville, until her health prevented regular attendance. She was a wonderful mother, a loving mother-in-law, and a devoted MeMom to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday, August 23 rd at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Coffeeville, with Rev. Truman Scarborough and Rev. Craig Baker officiating. Burial will be in Coffeeville Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 until 3:00 before the service at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service of Grenada.
Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, H.T. Parker; two brothers, Robert Spears and Jesse Spears and one sister, Tyna Spears.
She leaves behind two daughters and two sons-in-law, Vicki and Danny Hale of Senatobia and Fran and Woody Jones of Calhoun City; four grandsons, Matt Hale and his wife India, and Brian Hale and his wife Mindy, all of Senatobia; Hunter Jones and his wife Emily of Memphis, and Parker Jones and his wife Allison, of Germantown; 10 great-grandchildren, Anna, Travis, Taryn, Taylor, and Brooks Hale; William, Hazel, Eliza, Landon and Lewis Jones; and three nieces, Pam Tatum, Lynn Day, and Carla Mask, all of the Memphis area.
Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, Coffeeville.
