Mr. Marvin Sidney Dattel, 83, of Grenada, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023 at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was born October 15, 1939 in Greenville to Charles and Fannie Bilsky Dattel. Marvin moved with his family to Grenada at the age of 10 to open Dattel's, Grenada's oldest continually running family business. He was a graduate of John Rundle High School and attended Mississippi State University on a baseball scholarship. He went on to earn a degree in Business Administration from Memphis State University. Marvin also honorably served our country in the United States Army Reserve. He was a faithful member of the Hebrew Union Congregation in Greenville. Marvin will be lovingly remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who never missed the opportunity to attend his children or grandchildren's activities. He was blessed with a remarkable gift of making friends and putting those in his presence at ease.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Sunday, May 14, 2023 at the Greenville Jewish Cemetery with Rabbi Debra Kassoff officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 PM Saturday evening at McKibben and Guinn.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Karen Dattel; three daughters, Jodie Dattel Lachance(Dan) of Dillon, CO, Natalie Dattel Storm(Mark) of Atlanta, GA and Leah Dattel Lollar of Grenada; five grandchildren, Carson Lollar, Evan Smith, Grayson Smith, Anna Blake Lollar and Luke Lachance; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Janice Levin and Reva Merlin.
Pallbearers will be Grayson Dale, Adam Levin, Robbie Levin, Evan Smith, Grayson Smith and Mark Storm.
