Mrs. Mary Catherine Stewart Spurgeon, 90, of Grenada, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at her residence. She was born November 26, 1924 in Pine Valley, MS to Elmer and Alma Shields Stewart. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Grenada where she enjoyed being a part of the Judy Carroll Sunday School Class. Mrs. Spurgeon retired as an inspector at Pennaco Hosiery and will always be remembered for the love she had for her family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, October 9, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Grenada with Dr. Jim Nunnelee officiating. Interment will follow in the Broom Cemetery near Coffeeville. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday evening at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann Hoop of Grenada and Doris Jean Knight of Batesville; two brothers, George Stewart of Grenada and Floyd Stewart of Byhalia; one sister, Reba Stark of Southaven; two grandchildren, Christy Walters and Jeffrey Hoop of Grenada; three great-grandchildren, Laken Hoop, Jonathan Hoop and Kelsey Goff.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy Spurgeon; one brother, Carl Stewart and a sister, Ruth McCammon.
Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Hoop, Jonathan Hoop, Kenneth Knight, James Robinson, Alan K. Stewart and James C. Stewart.
