Mary Sue Trussell passed from this life at Elison Assisted Living in Oxford, MS on Thursday, July 3, 2025 to her eternal home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mary Sue was born December 28, 1930 to William Marshall McCartney and Mayfred McFeirn McCartney in the Oak Grove community of Tallahatchie County Mississippi. She is predeceased by her parents and brothers Clyde McCartney and William Marshall McCartney and her loving husband, Clifford Eugene Trussell with whom she cherished 71 years of marriage. The Trussell's children are Pamelia Trussell Tisdale (Kenny) and Marshall Kerwin Trussell (Nancy). Grandchildren are Kenneth Walter Tisdale (Chelsey), Mary Leigh Tisdale Schoolar (Patrick), John Kerwin Trussell (Sara) and Mark Allen Trussell (Grace). Great grandchildren are Miley, Evie Claire, Piper, Talon, Walker and Grey.
"Aunt Mary Sue" is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law Joan Mormon McCartney.
Mary Sue graduated from Charleston (MS) High School in 1949 and was elected by the senior class as Most Charming and Football Queen. Upon graduation she entered nursing school at Grenada (MS) Hospital School of Nursing with special training at Charity Hospital, New Orleans, LA. Mary Sue had a long and esteemed career balancing caring for her family and nursing at Grenada Clinic, private duty, and retired from Grenada Lake Medical Center "2nd Floor".
Mary Sue began her Christian walk in the McCartney home and at Oak Grove Methodist Church. The Trussells worshiped and served at First Baptist Church, Grenada, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Gore Springs, and prior to moving to assisted living in Oxford, at First Baptist Church, Aberdeen. They were also faithful members of the Gore Springs Community Club.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 12th at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Home, Grenada, MS at 11 o'clock AM with visitation prior to the service at 10 o'clock AM. Burial will be at Gore Springs Cemetery at Gore Springs Methodist Church.
Pall bearers will be Kenneth Tisdale, John Trussell, Mark Trussell, Patrick Schoolar, Eric McCartney, and Mickey Trussell.
Honorary Pall Bearers in absentia are Marshall McCartney and Phillip McCartney.
The Reverends Franklin Dunn and Truman Scarborough will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Gore Springs, MS, The Mississippi Baptist Children's Village or a charity of the donor's choice.
The family is grateful for the care provided in the final years and weeks by Leigh Ann Morgan, Diann Finley, Carolyn Isom, Rosie Minor, the staff of Elison Assisted Living and Gentiva Hospice.
