Obituary

Mrs. Lydia May Bailey Whitaker, 94, of Grenada, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 in Grenada. She was born January 3, 1923 in Fisk, MO to John Edward and Flo Duckworth Bailey. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Grenada and retired after working 38 years as a railroad freight clerk with the Illinois Central Railroad. Mrs. Whitaker was a former member of the Grenada Pilot Club and an avid animal lover who was a devoted supporter of the ASPCA and the local animal shelter. Always putting others first, she always believed in helping those who couldn't help themselves.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, August 7, 2017 at All Saints Episcopal Church in Grenada with Rev. Joshua Messick officiating. Interment will follow in the Oddfellows Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until service time Monday at the church.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Vaughan (Donald) of Grenada and Andrea DeCoux (Robbie) of McComb; four grandchildren, Paula Vaughan, Beth Vaughan Muselwhite, Lee Decoux Williams and Andrew DeCoux; seven great-grandchildren, Bailey Muselwhite, Elizabeth Muselwhite, Andrea Simo, Natalie Simo, Whit Williams, Lydia Williams and Burke Williams and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andrew Donelson Whitaker; a granddaughter, Libby DeCoux Simo; two sisters, Pauline Walker and Helen Hartnell; and one brother, William "Bill" Bailey.

Pallbearers will be Brent Dalton, Andrew DeCoux, Trey Miller, Bailey Muselwhite and David Muselwhite.
