Melba Davis Rhodes Spooner went home to be with her Lord on April 22, 2015 at her home. Services will be held Saturday, April 25, 2015, with visitation from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. The funeral will be at 2:00 PM at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service Chapel.
She was born October 14, 1922 in Calhoun County to the late George Eddie Davis and Ethel Spencer Davis. She was a graduate of Gore Springs High School and attended Jackson Commercial School. She was a secretary and also an employee of the Grenada Telephone Company before becoming a homemaker.
Melba was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Grenada where she was outreach leader for her Sunday School class. Melba was happiest working in her yard and doing for others. Even though she had no children of her own, she was a much loved aunt to her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands, L.A. Rhodes and Dr. Grant Spooner. Also preceding her were her two brothers, S.L. "Speck" Davis(Louise) and Hiram E. Davis Sr.(Edna) of Grenada; four sisters, Leola Richards(Davis) of Canton, Jewel Neal(Ingram) of Grenada, Orena Dinas(Johnny) of Grenada, and Modena Moss(Alton) of Ellisville, MS, as well as a nephew, Hiram E. Davis Jr.(Margaret).
She is also survived by two nieces, Linda Futch(Ken) of Tucker, GA and Melba Smith(Wayne) of Grenada. Nephews include Davis Richards(Mary Ann) of Starkville, Charles Davis(Gail) of Grenada, Steve Davis(Diana) of Grenada, Jeff Davis of Florida, Smokey and Barry Moss of Ellisville. She is also survived by a 'brother-in-love', the Rev. Johnny A. Dinas, plus a host of great nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her step children, Grant Spooner(Sue Ellen) of Lockport, IL, Claire Otte of Cordiff by the Sea, California, and Gary Spooner of Illinois.
She was faithfully cared for and loved by her caregivers, Joy Baker, Deloris Stewart, Peggy Willis and Shirley Hendricks.
