Mr. Melvin Leo Ross, 75, of Rosebloom, passed away Monday, August 29, 2022 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford. He was born August 24, 1947 in Rosebloom to J.D. and Sarah Tilghman Ross. Melvin was a retired facility manager with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and also owned and operated Ross Construction following his retirement from the Corps. He honorably served our country in the US Navy and was a member of Rosebloom Church of the Nazarene. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed being a member of the Pearidge Hunting Club for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 1, 2022 at the Zion Grove Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Jerry Hatcher, Rev. Fletcher Moorman and Rev. William Tribble officiating. Interment will follow in the Ross Family Plot in the Smith Cemetery in the Rosebloom Community of Tallahatchie County. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday evening at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service Thursday at Zion Grove Church of God of Prophecy.
Survivors include his wife, Lora Ross; son, David Ross(Karen) of Grenada; step-son, Mark Thompson of Boston, MA; three sisters, Nancy Bratton of Olive Branch, Sissy Pierce of Pearidge, and Ellen Keene of Pearidge; two brothers, Charlie Ross and Steve Ross, both of Pearidge; three grandchildren, Maddie Ross, Leslie Kerr and Jay Peters; and two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Kerr and Caden Kerr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tina Peters; grandson, Ryan Williams; twin brother, Alvin Ross; and brothers, Douglas, Jimmy and Wesley Ross.
Pallbearers will be Mark Lane, Eddie Moorman, Mike Ross, Jesse Strider, William Strider and Chris Whitten. Honorary Pallbearer will be Alton Strider.
