Obituary

Mildred Juanita Melton, affectionately known as MeeMaw, stepped into her eternal home in heaven on September 4, 2024, at the age of 98. Born to Clarence and Cora Hayes Armour, she grew up in the Coffeeville area and graduated from Coffeeville High School. She often reminisced about joyful rides in the rumble seat of "Leaping Lena," a car that brought laughter during her youth.

Mildred married Eddie Melton and together they raised four children in the Futheyville area of Grenada. She was employed at the Hosiery Mill before dedicating herself to her family and community as a homemaker, gardener, cook, caretaker, and active member of Hebron Baptist Church. Her nurturing spirit earned her the title of MeeMaw, not only within her family but among all who knew her.

After the passing of her beloved husband Eddie Elvis in 2014, Mildred moved to Providence Assisted Living, where she continued to bring joy and laughter to those around her, including the dedicated staff and caregivers from Adoration Hospice. Her kindness and warmth touched everyone she met, extending her legacy of love and faith.

MeeMaw is now reunited in heaven with her parents, siblings, infant son Eddie Armour Melton, daughter-in-law Linda Melton, great-grandson Colton Perry, and her husband of 68 years, Eddie Elvis Melton. She leaves behind her sons John E. Melton (Vicky) of Oxford and Donald G. Melton of Gulfport, daughters Cheryl Melton Revell (Buzz) and Janice Melton Gore (William) of Grenada, 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

MeeMaw's life was a testament to the belief that wealth is measured not by material possessions, but by the love we give and receive. She taught her family and friends the importance of acceptance, lifelong relationships, and the healing power of laughter. Her legacy will live on in the memories she created and the lessons she imparted.

The family will celebrate her life on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Grenada Memorial Garden. In memory of MeeMaw, please share a kindness, a laugh, or a smile with someone you meet each day.
