Mitchell McKree Lundy, Sr., 93, of Grenada, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the Mississippi State Veteran's Home in Oxford. Mitch was born in Neshoba County, MS to Hugh Milton and Battie Bounds Lundy. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1941-1946 on the U.S.S. Honolulu and was present during the invasion of Pearl Harbor December 7th, 1941. On being discharged from the Navy he attended the University of Oklahoma. He received his Bachelors degree from the University of Mississippi and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1951. He began his law practice in Grenada and practiced there until his retirement in 2000. During that time he served as Municipal Court Judge and Justice Court Judge. His civic involvement included serving as president of the Grenada County Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Airport Commission, and President of the Kiwanis Club. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 12, 2015 from the Chapel of McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday evening and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy Morris Lundy, a daughter, Elizabeth Lundy Anderson (Mike), a son, Mitchell McKree Lundy, Jr., and daughter, Stephanie Tierce LeClair (Tim); one sister, Jeanette Lundy Griffin; seven grandchildren Courtney Eaton, Davis Herndon (Claire), Michael Lundy, Allye Lundy, Emily Lundy, Lindsey LeClair and Andrew LeClair; 2 great grandchildren, Emory Eaton and Lundy Olivia Herndon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Hughlynn Luke, Frankie Chism, and Hester Smith, and a brother, Milford Lundy.
Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church in Grenada, Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada or the charity of the donor's choice.
