Obituary

Mrs. Elsie Nelle Pittman Lowe, age 87, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024, at Providence Assisted Living Center in Grenada, MS.

"Sister" as she was affectionately known to her friends and family was born in Coffeeville, MS on June 29, 1936, to the late Allen and Nelle Pittman.

After graduating from Coffeeville High School in 1954 she attended and graduated from the Mississippi University for Women (the "W") with a degree in Home Economics.  She later went back and got a degree in Elementary Education.  She taught several years at Kirk Academy in Grenada.

Nelle was an excellent seamstress and cook and loved preparing meals for her family and friends.  She was a faithful Christian and was a member of First Baptist Church in Coffeeville, MS.  For many years she taught the ladies Sunday School Class and always enjoyed having them come to her home for their annual Christmas Party.  She also served as the Church Librarian for several years and was a life member of the Coffeeville Women's Progressive Club.

Nelle was also a faithful member of the "Friends of the Library" in Coffeeville.  She was an avid reader and also loved playing Bridge with her Grenada friends.  She was also a die-hard Mississippi State Football and Basketball fan and loved cheering them on.  Most Saturdays during the fall she could be found watching the Bulldogs on television dressed in one of her MS State sweatshirts with her cowbell by her side and yes, she rang it loudly and proudly anytime the Bulldogs scored.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Lowe, a daughter, Lisa Lowe Mann, and three brothers, Sam Allen Pittman, Jr., Phillip Pittman, Denley Pittman, and a sister, Joanne Pittman, who died as an infant.  Survivors include her son Jim Lowe of Collierville, TN, two granddaughters, Katie Bailey (Andy), and Beth Bright both of Grenada.  Nelle also leaves behind three great-grandchildren Charlie Bailey, Denley Bright, and Lowe Broome all of Grenada and a brother, Joe Pittman of Montgomery, TX.

Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Monday, January 22, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Services in Grenada, MS followed by the service at 2:00.  A private family interment will follow at the Coffeeville Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church of Coffeeville, P.O. Box 241, Coffeeville, MS 38922 or Friends of the Library, P.O. Box 359, Coffeeville, MS  39822.
