Mrs. Nellie Coleman Kerr Ward, 79, of Grenada, passed away Friday, January 10, 2025 at her residence.  She was born September 14, 1945 in Grenada.  Nellie was a well known voice in politics in the Grenada area as she served as an Election Commissioner for over 20 years.  She also taught in the Grenada School District for a number of years and enriched the lives of many children with her kind and caring demeanor.  Nellie was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and cheerfully looked forward to working with the children in Mission Friends and AWANA.  A gifted conversationalist, Nellie loved to visit with old friends and made new friends everywhere she went.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Friendship Baptist Church with her grandson, Rev. Dustin Ward officiating and Rev. Tim McCaffrey assisting.  Interment will follow in the Wayside Cemetery at Scobey.  The family will receive friends from noon until service time Tuesday at the church.

Survivors include her husband and the love of her life, James Ward whom she married May 28, 1966; daughter, Becky Ward Hathcock(Stevie) of Winona; sister, Diane Horne of Grenada; brother, Jimmy Kerr of Scobey; daughter-in-law, Marsha Ward of Grenada; five grandchildren, Jim Hathcock, Stanley Hathcock, Amanda Courtney, Dustin Ward and Presley Ward; and seven great-grandchildren, Derek Hughes, Kelly Goss, Payton Hathcock, Carson Goss, Dani Hathcock, Cailyn Wells and Isaiah Usry.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Coleman and Stella Marter Kerr; her bonus Dad, Jim Kerr; son, Steve Ward and a sister, Jessie Jones.

Daniel Beach, Ricky Koonce, Charles Jones, Keith Marter, Samy McCracken and Robby Stovall will honor Nellie by serving as pallbearers and carry her to rest in the Wayside Cemetery.
