Mr. James Nelson Ashmore, 69, of Grenada, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019 at his residence. He was born October 29, 1949 in Greenwood to Albert R. and Martha Hortense Lott Ashmore. He was a member of Elliott Baptist Church, a US Air Force Veteran and was also a retired firefighter having worked for many years at the Clarksdale Fire Department. Nelson was an avid outdoorsman – always enjoying the opportunity to bass fish or take a grandchild deer hunting. He was also a devoted fan of Mississippi State athletics.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 17, 2019 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Carroll County. The family will receive friends from noon until service time Thursday at McKibben and Guinn.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa Boyette Ashmore; one daughter, Nicole Self(Brian) of McComb; three sons, Heath Ashmore(Maghan) of Cleveland, Brad Easley(Michelle) of Scobey and Blake Easley(Nicole) of Charleston, SC; two sisters, Brenda League and Anne Poirier, both of Missouri; and nine grandchildren, Garner Ashmore, Gray Ashmore, Sara Self, Sam Self, Lance Easley, Payton Easley, Adelyn Easley, Caleb Milam and Brayden Milam.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Glenn Ashmore.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
