Obituary

Ouida Joyce Power Thomas, who was proud to be known as Mrs. Charles V. "Chuck" Thomas, of Grenada passed away Monday at the age of 82. She was born Nov. 25, 1939 in McCool, MS to Robert Alvin Power and Mavis Gertrude Simpson Power, and grew up in Louisville.  She held her Bachelors of Business Admin from Mississippi State University, earned her Masters in Music from Delta State University, and did multiple PhD level courses in New Orleans. She served as judge for Music Guilds at local, regional and national levels. She wed Chuck in 1964, and they were married nearly 58 years up to his passing in 2021.

She enjoyed decades of playing organ for All Saints Episcopal Church and leading the All Saints Church Choir.  But her greatest joy was taking every piano student she had (and there were many), then teaching them from basics like Bastien or Faber and growing them enough to play for their family, their church and even in Broadway productions like Les Miserables. While Chuck was busy helping lead in business and the community, Ouida was busy leading our community's individuals to be their best.

She was an active and devoted member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Grenada. She rarely spoke of her personal accomplishments, which were many, but was always eager to clip articles from where her students had excelled in local, regional, even national competitions. She was an active and devoted member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Grenada. And she cherished every family gathering where she worked hard to offer a great meal for Christmas and especially for Thanksgiving (which her kids also celebrated as her birthday party). She and dad will both be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 18, 2022 at All Saints Episcopal Church in Grenada. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until service time Saturday at the church.

Survivors include two daughters, Sylvia Thomas White (Ed) of Dickson, TN and Karla Victoria Thomas of Grenada, daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Thomas of Oxford; five grandchildren: Joshua Thomas White, Jacob Christopher White (Hannah), Sara Grace White, Charles Alexander "Alex" Thomas and Katherine Elizabeth "Katie" Thomas; one great-granddaughter Charlotte White, who gave her the proud designation of being "GG."

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, a son, Charles Gregory Thomas. Pallbearers & Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerry Denley, Jerry Denley, Jr., Herman Duke, Gene Goss, Ed Hill, Randy Hodges, Girault Jones, Mike Lovelace, David McElwrath, Jeff Sanford, Donald Vaughan, Jimmy Vance, Alex Thomas, Jacob White, Joshua White, Clarence Cheatham & Ed White.

Memorials may be directed to the All Saints Episcopal Church in Grenada or French Camp Academy in French Camp, MS.
