Mr. Rayford Leon Boxx, 92, of Coffeeville, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born February 28, 1924 in Water Valley to Luther Linder and Lillie Belle Dickey Boxx. Mr. Boxx worked as a locomotive engineer for the Illinois Central Railroad for 44 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Coffeeville and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 10, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Coffeeville with Rev. Truman Scarborough and Rev. Craig Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Coffeeville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until service time Sunday at the church.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Charlene Chapman Boxx; one daughter, Mary Dawn Peeples of Coffeeville; two sons, Ray Boxx (Karen) of Grenada and Charles Boxx (Denise) of Coffeeville; six grandchildren, Dawn Marie Redwine, Kristi Coleman, Hunter Boxx, Beth Haggerty, Leah Boxx and Sarah Boxx; and three great-grandchildren, Riley, Jack and Lucy Redwine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Gladys Evans, Mildred Finch and Opal Gore and two brothers, Clarence and E.T. Boxx.
