Mr. Raymond Edward Ley, 99, of Greenwood, formerly of Grenada, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016 at Country Meadows Personal Care Home in Greenwood. He was born August 14, 1916 in Poplar Bluff, MO to Jack Vincent and Beulah Moore Ley. In his early years, he and his family moved to Grenada where he attended school. Later he joined the National Guard and the US Navy. In 1942, he was drafted into the Army Air Corps. After being discharged, he went to work at Pennaco Hosiery as an electrician working there until his retirement. Following his retirement, he moved to Greenwood and built his house on a pond, fulfilling his wishes of living where he could walk out the back door and go fishing everyday if he wanted.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Grenada with Dr. Rusty Douglas officiating.
Survivors include his niece, Rhea Crawford and her husband, Larry of Greenwood; one great-niece, Vicki Counts and her husband, John of Oklahoma City, OK; one great-great-niece, Alexandra Counts and a great-great-nephew, John Crawford Counts.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mearl Ley.
