Mr. Riley Barber Overbey, Sr., 94, of Grenada, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024 in Grenada. He was born October 6, 1929 in Greenwood to Walter John and Ollie Hendon Overbey. Riley owned and operated Overbey Electric in Greenwood for over 30 years and cherished the relationships he had with his many customers who also became friends. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Greenwood and also held memberships in the National Rifle Association and the Big D Hunting Club in Black Hawk where he had served as President for many years. Riley loved to work and took great pride in the work he did. He never met a stranger and was quick to nickname his family and friends.
A private family graveside service was held at the Oddfellows Cemetery in Greenwood.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary O. Heffner(Ricky) of Ferriday, LA and Betty O. Strickland(Jimmie) of Grenada; brother, Walter John Overbey of Germantown, TN; daughter-in-law, Sammie Overbey of Grenada; seven grandchildren, Amy H. Campbell, Amber H. Watson, Brittany O. Ware, Christopher Overbey, Heather Boone, Melissa O. Smith and Riley B. Overbey, III; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hazel Chaney Overbey; sons, Riley B. Overbey, Jr. and Dennis Lamar Overbey; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Overbey and Betty Overbey Hodges and a brother, Arthur L. Overbey.
