Obituary

Mr. Robert Gary Laster, 79, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital. Born on August 4, 1946, in Grenada to Harris and Frances Laster, Robert Gary lived a life full of love and laughter.

Robert Gary worked primarily in the medical field. He first worked at Grenada Lake Medical Center, where he met his wife of 42 years, Susan. He then worked as an EMT in Winona and Grenada before finishing his career at Rotech, delivering medical equipment until his retirement.

If Robert Gary wasn’t telling a story about growing up with his two brothers and two sisters or reminiscing about his friends from the Binford High School Class of 1964, he was spending time with his girls. He also loved his buddies, Angie and Austin.

If you knew Robert Gary, you knew he loved MSU women’s basketball, NASCAR, and Jeff Gordon, with whom he shared a birthday. On any given day, you could find Robert Gary outside in the garden, sitting on the porch complaining about the train cars, or driving around Duck Hill to make his 15th trip to Dollar General.

Survivors include his wife, Susan; his three daughters, Krystle Laster of Duck Hill, Melissa Daves of Hernando, and Amy Williams (Paul) of Gore Springs; and his sisters, Nannette Laster and Melba (Tommy) Rodgers. Robert Gary was blessed with five grandchildren: Jamie Daves, Ryan Williams, Ridge Williams, and twins Remi and Rogen Williams, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Tim Laster; his parents; and his brothers, Johnny Laster and Larry Laster.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Tommy Rodgers, David Mosley, Barry Rogers, Jeff Lancaster, Brandon Vance, Marc Mosley, Jon Mosley, Kyle Rogers, Taylor Rodgers, Austin Rodgers, Chase Lancaster, and Cody Lancaster. Serving as honorary pallbearers are some of his lifelong friends: Todd McLemore, Joe Frazier, Terry Thomas, Morris Timbs, Robert Lynn Rose, Smiley Arrington, and Ray Smith.
