Roger Harold Appelhans, age 64, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 21, 2020, while surrounded by his loving family and friends at his home on Sparta Road.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at Sparta Cemetery in Holcomb with the Rev. Bob Cannizzaro officiating.
Roger was born October 21, 1955, to Neva and Jack Appelhans in Sterling, CO. He was a member of Sparta United Methodist Church. Roger enjoyed working in his church and was a member of the Sparta Men's Fellowship.
Roger was a retired Master Electrician. After high school graduation, Roger worked in Colorado as an electrician. In 1987, he went to California to work in the electrical field. Returning from California in 1989, Roger worked for Stewart and Stephenson based out of Colorado. In 1990, the opportunity arose, and Roger traveled to China to work, and continued to work in Asia for 7 years. Roger returned to the United States to live in Houston, Texas, and worked for GE and TCEXG out of Portland, Maine. He enjoyed his work building turbines and working on power plants all over the world.
Roger was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose life revolved around his family and church. He is survived by his wife; Joan Estes Appelhans; daughters, Paige Appelhans of Holcomb, and Dakotah Kraushaar (Cody) of Houston, Texas; son, Vernon Rodgers (Lindsay) of Ruleville; and two grandchildren, Braxton and Marshall. Roger also is survived by his mother, Neva Appelhans of Arvada, Colorado, and seven brothers and two sisters. Louis Appelhans (Lynette), Dennis Appelhans (Marnie); Kenneth Appelhans (Judy); Tim Appelhans (Pam); Daniel Appelhans; Ronald Appelhans (Ellen); and Corinne Bogert all of Colorado. Ernest Appelhans from California, and Jacquie Russell (Jim) from Texas. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews. Roger is preceded in death by the mother of Paige, Scotland, and Dakotah, Pamela Eckhardt-Appelhans; his daughter, Scotland Appelhans; his father, Jack Appelhans; and a sister, Nanette Appelhans Patch.
Anyone wishing may make donations to Sparta Church Cemetery in lieu of flowers.
