Mr. Alan Roger Smith, 76 of Grenada, Mississippi passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2023 with his loving wife by his side. He was born October 23, 1946 to Archie Franklin Smith and Gladys Elveretta Eckstein Smith. He was a graduate of Cleveland High School. Roger received a Bachelor's degree from Memphis State and a Master's degree at Louisiana State University School of Banking. He spent many years in a career of banking until he retired as President of the Bank of Ruleville. While in Ruleville he served in the Lions Club and Rotary Club serving his community. Later years he ventured into a life of long-haul trucking and enjoyed for the most part seeing our beautiful country. Roger also loved hunting with the men and sometimes fishing.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 3, 2023 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service with Rev. Anthony Prestage officiating. Interment will follow in the Merigold Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the hour of the service Saturday at McKibben and Guinn.
He is survived by his wife Julia Burke Smith, Son, Alan Roger Smith II (Barb), Nolansville, TN Daughter, Alecia Diane Smith Reese (William), Hernando, MS, Son, Donovan Dwain Lasyone (Isabel) Clint, TX and Tina Lasyone Parker (Paul Pannell) Cleveland, MS; ten grandchildren, Evan Smith, Corinne Smith, Mackenzie Reese, Amanda Reese, Preston Reese, Christen Sosa (Ivan), Catrina Burnett (Andrew), Nathaniel Lasyone (Mia), Colby Parker, Brett Myers; two great grandchildren, Hannah Sosa and Lukas Sosa; expecting number three, James Burnett.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents Archie F. Smith, Gladys Smith and his only sibling brother Paul Smith.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren Colby Parker, Nathan Lasyone, Preston Reese, Brett Myers, Andrew Burnett and Ivan Sosa. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ben Smith, Michael Smith, Kevin Burke, Robert Burke and Stephen Linzay.
