Rose A. Devarenne, age 85 passed away peacefully July 9, 2020 at Grenada Nursing Home, Grenada, MS. Predeceased by her husband Stanley Devarenne and cherished parents Ernest & Helen Thibodeau of Sanford, ME.
Rose Ann Thibodeau was born on July 17, 1934 in Sanford, ME to Ernest and Helen Thibodeau. Her siblings being 12 brothers and sisters, namely: Ruth (d), Alma (d), Ernestine, Catherine "Kay" (d), Alfred "Pete" (d), Cecilia (d), Lucille, Martha, Leo "Lee", Philip (d), Claire, and lastly folowing her, Henry "Hank" (d). She graduated from St. Ignatius High School in Sanford.
She pursued further studies to begin a career in architectural design in Waltham, MA. Rose married Stanley Devarenne on October 16, 1982 beginning another chapter in her life at 48. She had a knack for design in all forms from sewing, art, costume jewelry resale and refinishing furniture for resale in various shops. Her filing system of drawers from A-Z was absolutely remarkable! She had a good sense of humor and direction especially in driving her husband's cab in Boston & surrounds!
In 2002, they moved to Horn Lake, MS just loving their newly built home inspected by none other than her brother Lee. Their backyard, abutting a picturesque pond & farm with cows and horses in view, was Rose's inspiration and the porch a place of creativity. Frequent phone calls & letters to brothers and sisters maintaining her relationship with her family. She and Stan established a network of friends and gathered weekly. Rose loved a hot coffee and donut but was quick to say none would compare to her Mom's. Not unlike her to challenge a donut shop owner with a sampling! Devout Catholics, they were active in their parish. They enjoyed playing cards & frequented the nearby casinoes & happily often joined by sister Lucille from Alabama. They continued traveling to Waltham every fall to spend a month with distant family & friends and squeezing in a trip to Montreal, PQ.. Their holiday albums to Switzerland and France etc. were often out in the living room.
She will be remembered by her immediate current family brother: Lee, sisters: Ernestine, Lucille, Martha, Claire, and numerous nieces and nephews Thibodeau and Devarenne, as truly the lovely, gracious and only "Rose"!
Grateful for the care givers of Grenada Nursing Home and Legacy Hospice of Grenada, MS. In particular special thanks to friends Cecilia & Ed Stahl of Horn Lake and Joan Stewart of Grenada who visited Rose and brought her "Hot Coffee & a Donut!" several times a week while at the nursing home this last year of her life battling Alzheimer's.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Therese Lisieux Parish, Sanford, ME to be announced at a later date. Her wish to be cremated and interred at the Waltham Cemetery with her husband Stanley will also follow through McKibben & Guinn Funeral Services, Grenada, MS. In lieu of flowers, please offer your gift of hope to the charity of your choosing.
