Obituary

Mrs. Rosie Jane Mitchell passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2026. She was born on October 19, 1934, to Thomas and Susie Woods. She married her husband Sydney Mitchell on November 19, 1952. They were married for 57 years before God called him home. She will be remembered by her family as a loving and devoted wife and mother. With a beautiful heart and sweet spirit, she was loved by many. Throughout her working years, she was employed at Spain’s and later served as Bakery Manager at Piggly Wiggly in Grenada. She also dedicated several years of service to Heatcraft in Grenada before retiring. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, May 11, 2026 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada with Dr. Cecil Fayard officiating. Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery near Duck Hill. Family and friends will gather from noon until service time Monday at McKibben and Guinn.

She is survived by her son, Kenny Mitchell(Darla) of Duck Hill and daughters, Cathy Clifton and Valerie Mitchell of Grenada; grandchildren, Kris Whitten(William) of Saltillo, TJ Mitchell(Kayla) of Duck Hill, John McNamara of Grenada, Allison McGee(Matt) of Duck Hill and Angela Cox(Caleb) of Gluckstadt; great-grandchildren, Liam, Ivy and Olivia Whitten of Saltillo, Gracie, Kagen and Mary Sawyer Mitchell of Duck Hill, Tatum Caves of Duck Hill, Mason McNamara of Grenada and Ava & Mila Cox of Gluckstadt; sister, Peggy Wooten of Kennesaw, GA and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Susie Woods; husband, Sydney Mitchell; twin daughters, Debra Kay and Sandra Fay Mitchell; son, Jeffrey Mitchell; and sisters, Barbara Tekulve and Kate Morman.

Pallbearers will be TJ Mitchell, John McNamara, Manly Morman, Robert Clifton, Mike Sudduth and William Whitten.

The family would like to thank Grenada Living Center and their staff for the exceptional and wonderful care they have given these many years. A special thank you to Cindi Green and Angela Amason with Legacy Hospice that provided amazing care these last several weeks.
