Mrs. Ruby I. Thompson Zuelzer, 86, of Grenada, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2019 at her residence. She was born November 7, 1932 in Medicine Park, OK to John and Alma Overton Carter. She was a pioneer of women's rights as a standing member of the Professional and Business Women's Foundation. Ruby supported her family while putting herself through college. She worked for many years at the Children's Research Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. She also worked in the laboratory as a cytogeneticist and immunohematologist at the VA Medical Center in Bethesda, MD; a culture typist at the American Red Cross in Bethesda, MD and ultimately retired as the Director of Blood Bank Services under the Department of Pathology at Grenada Lake Medical Center.
At Mrs. Zuelzer's request, there will be no service held at this time.
Survivors include her son, Daniel Dwayen Thompson, Jr.; two daughters by marriage, Barbara Ferguson of New York and Jacquelyn Anderson of Maryland; one brother, Aubrey Carter of Grenada; three grandchildren, Ted Ferguson of New York, Jennifer Ferguson of New York and Amanda Ferguson of California; one great-grandson, Joseph Dwayne Thompson; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. Wolf Zuelzer; brother, Edward Carter of Big Sandy, TX; and grandson, Daniel "Danny" Thompson, III.
