Mrs. Ruth Janette Mathews Carter, 90, of Grenada, passed away Monday, September 7, 2020 in Grenada. She was born August 8, 1930 in Chickasha, OK to Benjamin Franklin Calhoun Mathews and Martha Ellen Cribbs Mathews. She had worked for many years as a secretary at Defenbaugh Finance Company and the Grenada Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Carter was an active member of the Grenada Community having served in the Grenada Exchange Club, the Garden Club of Grenada and also as a Pink Lady at Grenada Lake Medical Center. She and her family were devoted members of the Southside Church of Christ.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, September 11, 2020 at the Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Survivors include two daughters, Jan Carter Smith(Mike) and Anita Carter Turner(Kenny) both of Grenada; one son, Bruce Carter, Sr.(Mary Gay) of Ruston, LA; seven grandchildren, Tracy Mitchell(Rob), Bruce Dale Carter, Jr., Hayes Carter(Paige), Tim Turner(Lori), Ken Turner(Memrie), Sean Turner(Taylor) and Mathew Carter; and nine great-grandchildren, Reynolds Carter, Abby Jo Carter, Joey Ruth Turner, Jaxon Turner, Aubrey Turner, Cassidy Turner, Landon Turner, Aiden Turner and Briggs Carter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Aubrey Carter; son, Joe Carter; and two sisters, Bertha Ellen Morgan(Jay W.) and Margurite Dekinder(Phil).
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Tim Turner, Ken Turner, Sean Turner, Bruce Dale Carter, Hayes Carter and Matt Carter as well as great-grandsons, Briggs Carter, Reynolds Carter, Aiden Turner, Landon Turner and Jax Turner.
