Mrs. Ruth Ray Spears Pitcock, 88, of Grenada, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center – Grenada. She was born June 22, 1928 in Grenada to Ruby and James Isaac Spears. Mrs. Pitcock was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Grenada. She worked for Grenada Bank for over 20 years and later as a child care provider. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She taught Sunday school for many years at the First Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 6, 2017 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service with Rev. Tom Potter and Rev. Jack Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Norman Pitcock, Sr.; two sons, Lamar Pitcock and his wife, Lisa of Grenada and Robert Pitcock and his wife, Machelle of Tupelo; one daughter Rae Pitcock Horlamus and her husband, Larry of Baltimore, MD; one brother, Bob Spears, Sr. of Olive Branch; four grandchildren, Drew Pitcock, David Partin, Michael Partin and Grace Pitcock; three great-grandchildren, Logan, Emma Kate and Duncan Pitcock; and dozens of nieces, nephews and children she care for over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marie Portera; grandson, Jeffrey Horlamus; and three brothers, Hubert Spears, Sr., William Spears and J.D. Spears.
