March 4, 1928 – February 13, 2019
Mrs. Mildred Ruth Thomas Vance "Granny", 90, of Grenada, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2019. She was born March 4, 1928 in Charleston to Charlie and Ethel Thomas. She was a retired bus driver with the Grenada School District. She faithfully worked alongside her husband, A.E., for many years running Vance's Greenhouse and Geeslin Corner Grocery. She was a charter member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she was an active member. She loved her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, cleaning and shopping with her girls.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, February 15, 2019 at Friendship Baptist Church with Dr. Bob Self and Rev. Sherman Barnette officiating. Interment will follow in the Smith Cemetery at Rosebloom. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until service time Friday at the church.
Survivors include one son, Bobby Vance(Susan) of Grenada; one daughter, Lisa Hughes(Todd) of Coffeeville; one son-in-law, Jeff Staten of Grenada; eleven grandchildren, Cindy Kinard(Clint), Dale Staten, Shane Staten(Fran), Jeffery Staten, Jennifer Youngblood(Terrance), Kelly McAdams(Jay), Austin Vance, Jessica Richardson(Brandon), Matthew Hughes(Blaire), Melanie Stallings(Bert) and Jay Blaylock; seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, A.E.; daughter, Joyce Staten; son, David Vance; daughter-in-law, Vickie Vance and her parents, Charlie and Ethel Thomas.
Pallbearers will be Dale Staten, Shane Staten, Matthew Hughes, Ashley Melton, Justin Kinard and Austin Vance. Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Meredith, Samy McCracken, Bobby White, Donny Hodges, Tim McDaniel and Charlie Jones.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the staff at Hermitage Gardens and Yalobusha General Hospital for their love, patience and guidance throughout her illness. We are also grateful for the many friends who visited, prayed, called and brought food. We are eternally grateful.
