IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley
Taylor
February 3, 1939 – May 2, 2023
Dear Friends, we are saddened to announce the passing of Shirley Tribble Taylor on May 2, 2023, at the age of 84.
She was born on February 3, 1939, in Scobey, Mississippi, to William Jenkins (Doc) and Priscilla Tribble. An alumna of John Rundle High School (Class of 1957), Shirley continued her education at Jackson Commercial College. Following her studies, she met and married James B. Taylor Sr. (Sonny). Shirley and Sonny managed Taylor Construction Company for 36 years before retiring and continuing to operate their rental business. They spent 58 years together before his passing in 2016.
Shirley was known as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother who cherished time with her family. She loved growing flowers, sewing, reading mystery novels, and watching classic films. Many a day, she could be found working in her yard or in one of her greenhouses. Once she was asked, "What is your favorite flower?" Her reply was simple, "All of Them!"
Shirley was a devout Christian throughout her life. Her faith was the foundation of her life, she lived it well. Shirley will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her legacy of faith, love, kindness, and generosity will live on through her family and friends.
Shirley is survived by three children, Benny (Ruthie) Taylor, Sheree Taylor, and Tina (Scottie) Garlington; four grandchildren, Lee Taylor-Penn, Haley (Seth) Porter, Taylor (Jacob) Brown, and Ella Claire Garlington; one great-grandchild, Caroline Taylor-Penn. One brother, Jake (Anita) Tribble, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. (Sonny) Taylor, parents Doc and Priscilla Tribble, and a brother, Winfred Jenkins Tribble.
Pallbearers will be Scottie Garlington, Jacob Brown, Jimmy Morrow, Joe Lee McCristion, Lee Holly, and Greg Ledbetter.
The family would like to thank Dr. Martin Weiss and Dr. Todd Edwards for their exceptional care and compassion.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, May 6 at 2:00 PM at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Home with Brother Hal Johnson and Brother Charles Willis officiating. Interment will follow at Wayside Cemetery in Scobey, MS. Family and friends are invited to the visitation, which will be held two hours prior to the service.
Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
