Mr. George William "Sonny" Stewart, 78, of Grenada, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford. He was born March 15, 1938 in Yalobusha County to Elmer and Alma Shields Stewart. He was a retired Regional Account Manager with Temple Inland and a US Navy Veteran. Sonny was a member of the Coffeeville United Methodist Church and enjoyed serving on the Board of Directors of the Yalobusha Historical Society.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the Coffeeville United Methodist Church with Rev. Stacy Douglas officiating. Interment will follow in the Coffeeville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time Sunday at the church.
Survivors include two sons, James Carl Stewart of Houston, TX and Alan Kirk Stewart of Denver, CO; one grandson, Jackson Branum Stewart of Houston, TX; one sister, Reba Stark of Southaven and one brother, Floyd Stewart of Byhalia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Patsy Branum Stewart and Betty Bryant Stewart; two sisters, Catherine Spurgeon and Ruth McCammon and one brother, Carl Stewart.
Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Hoop, Danny Jones, Ricky McCammon, Terry McCammon, Jackson Stewart and Rodney Wolfe.
