Teresa Simmons Owen, 84, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026.  She was born on September 24, 1941 in Grenada, Mississippi.  She spent her early years in Grenada, followed by Walnut Creek, California and Knoxville, Tennessee, where she graduated from high school.  Teresa later moved to Memphis and graduated from Memphis State University with both undergraduate and graduate degrees in education.  She spent many years in education, both in the classroom and in administration.  After retirement from Memphis City Schools, she taught teacher education at Crichton College.

Teresa was a member of the professional educational organization Phi Delta Kappa, where she held various roles.  Her other interests included her membership in a local garden club as well as tending to her roses.  Teresa was a long-time member of Bellevue Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada.

Teresa's survivors include her daughter, Christina Johnson(Brent); her beloved grandchildren, Cooper and Kate Johnson; her brother, Andy Simmons(Ann); and several other dearly loved cousins and nieces.

She was predeceased by her parents; brother, Fred Simmons, Jr.; nephew, Chad Simmons and a great-nephew, Adam Schrock.
