Owen Timothy Whitehurst was born December 15, 1947, and died on July 29, 2024, at his home in Grenada. Tim was preceded in death by his parents Obia and Earnestine Whitehurst and his brother Jim Whitehurst. Tim was a community servant all of his life. He began his career as a firefighter for Grenada Fire Department where he worked his way up the ranks to eventually becoming Chief. He retired from the Fire Department with over 20 years serving the city of Grenada. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved golfing, hunting, and fishing with his good friends. He also was a man of many talents. He could build anything you needed and loved doing it, as long as you did it "HIS WAY". He loved his family and friends and would do anything to help someone in need.
He is survived by his wife Linda Whitehurst, his daughter Amy Killebrew (Casey) and son Chris Whitehurst (Shea), and his brother Jerry Whitehurst (Shirley). He loved his sweet grandchildren Bryce Stegall, Jaidyn Laird, Kallen Laird, and Addison Moore (Allyson). He also adored his great grandchildren Avery and Carter and all of his nieces and nephews.
Tim is an active member of First Methodist Church in Grenada. Visitation will be Thursday, August 1st at 1:00 pm at First Methodist Church with the funeral service following at 2:00 pm. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery following the service. Pall Bearers will be Fire Chief Hollis W. Bloodworth, Deputy Chief Blaine Adams, Deputy Chief Robert Dunn, Deputy Chief Wesley Halford, Captain Sonny Horne and Lieutenant Cull Dees. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Mr. Bryce Stegall, Mr. Casey Killebrew, Mr. JR Reece, Mr. Gene Grass, Mr. Jim Liles and Mr. Fred Johnston.
Memorials may be directed to First Methodist Church in Grenada, 161 S. Line St., Grenada, MS 38901.
