Mrs. Vella Whitehurst Morris, 97, of Grenada, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Providence Assisted Living. She was born October 7, 1919 in Iuka to Ellis and Minnie Phillips Whitehurst. She was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where she was active in the Goodtimers senior adult group and the Silvertones Choir.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 14, 2017 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada with Rev. Eugene Heimbach and Rev. Barry Worrell officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Survivors include six daughters, Clydean McHann (Jimmy) of Brandon, Willie Rice of Kosciusko, Nellie Caldwell (Dean) of Vicksburg, Judy Lundy of Grenada, Jody Duncan of Hernando and Deb Speir of Grenada; one son, James Morris (Sandra) of Brandon; two sisters, Ann Woods and Jean Carpenter, both of Biloxi; one brother, Kenneth Parnell of Corinth; 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 61 years, Edgar Morris; granddaughter, Brenda Jones; grandson, Jake Morris and great-grandson, Thomas Rice.
Pallbearers will be Tim Caldwell, Josh Jones, Andrew LeClair, Harry McCarley, Paul McCarley, and Jason Rice.
