Virginia Fielder was born in Charleston, MS on August 5, 1918. Her parents were Samuel Swift Fielder and Ruth Laster. She graduated from Charleston High School in 1936 as its Valedictorian. Even though she had a partial scholarship to attend business school in Memphis, finances prevented her from taking the opportunity. After working in Charleston for about six months, two of which were without pay (for experience), she moved to Grenada early in 1937. Virginia first worked for Oliver Grocery Wholesalers for several years before moving to Oliver-Lilly Motors as their bookkeeper. It was there where she met Kit Bowen, who she married on August 28, 1947. Together, they had two sons, Kit and Mike. The family resided on Pecan Street in Grenada and at Ft. Benning, GA, before moving to 1720 Provine Road in 1955. For many years, Virginia worked in the office at the Hosiery Mill in Grenada on Commerce Street. She is survived by her two sons, Michael and Kit, including Michael's wife, Sharon and their two children, Andrew and Alicia and Kit's wife, Annette and their daughter, Margaret. Virginia will be sorely missed. Virginia was a devout Christian and an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Grenada for 79 years. For many years, she was a member of Mrs. Matthew's Bible Class and the XYZ Club. Mary Virginia Fielder Bowen died early on January 2, 2017 at the age of 98.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 5, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Grenada with Rev. Tom Potter officiating. Interment will follow in the Charleston Cemetery in Charleston, MS. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until service time Thursday at the church.
