Obituary

Mr. Walter Allen McCool, Jr., 86, of Grenada, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Grenada Living Center. Walter was born in Grenada on December 24, 1931, to Walter Allen McCool and Virginia Lewis McCool. A life-long resident of Grenada, Walter was a graduate of John Rundle High School and Holmes Junior College. He received a Bachelor of Accountancy degree from The University of Mississippi where he was a charter member of the accountancy order of the University Of Mississippi School Of Accountancy. Prior to his graduation from the University, Walter enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in Europe for three years. After his tour of duty he returned to the University of Mississippi where he completed his degree. For a number of years Walter had interest in hotels in Olive Branch. He retired as Director of Grenada County Tourism and was recognized as a Mississippi Certified Tourism Professional prior to his retirement. Walter loved his country, his state and Grenada. A very civic minded individual he was a former president of the Grenada Lions Club, the Grenada County Chamber of Commerce and a former king of the Grenada Junior Auxiliary. Walter was ordained as a deacon in the Baptist Church and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. His strong faith sustained him during the past two years of his illness and he will be remembered as a fine Christian man and a true southern gentleman.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, July 6, 2018 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service. Interment with military honors will follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Park. Dr. John Lee Taylor of Birmingham, Alabama, and Dr. Brent Barker, Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, will conduct the services. The family will receive friends from 9:00 until service time Friday at McKibben and Guinn.

The greatest joy of his life was undoubtedly his family to whom he was devoted and who were equally devoted to him. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Margarett DeLoach McCool, son Walt McCool; two granddaughters Ginny McCool Kirk (Cannon) and Rachel McCool Singh (Jimmy); two great grandchildren Bryce Kirk and Blakely Kirk all of Grenada and a brother Lewis McCool (Susan) of Durango, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Edward DeLoach McCool.

Pallbearers will be Cannon Kirk, Jimmy Singh, Shea Kirk, Paul Smith, Girault Jones, and Herb Parks.
