Rev. Walter Mack Simmons, 68, of Grenada, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at his residence. He was born December 29, 1948 in Eupora to Mack and Ettie Lee Malone Simmons. At the age of one, he moved with his parents to a farm near Duck Hill where he spent his childhood and youth. Rev. Simmons had served as a Baptist Minister for over 47 years in churches across Mississippi including Water Valley, Sardis, Charleston, Greenville, Eupora, Bruce, Pontotoc, West Point, Louisville and was currently serving as Pastor of Gore Springs Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University and was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman. He also enjoyed woodworking and painting.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 15, 2017 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada with Dr. Lowell Ingram, Rev. Jim Pender and Rev. Dwight Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Red Hill Cemetery near Duck Hill. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday evening and one hour prior to the service Saturday at McKibben and Guinn.
Survivors include his wife, Jewell Simmons; two sons, Joey Simmons of Grenada and Ray Simmons (Sabrina) of Medina, TN; one sister, Sharon Farrar Simmons of Sweatman; one brother, Johnny Ray Simmons (Charlotte) of Madison and two grandsons, Lawson and Colton Simmons.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Bennett, Joe Max Blakely, Larry Blakely, Larry Blaylock, Lee Clark, and Mike Gibson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Erwin Cook and the Men of Gore Springs Baptist Church.
