Mr. William Durwood Whitten, 86, of Grenada, passed away Friday, March 23, 2018 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center – Grenada. He was born June 28, 1931 in Tallahatchie County to William Ralston and Ruby Glenn Rounsaville Whitten. He had spent most of his working life as a civil engineer and later at the Grenada County Courthouse as a bailiff. Bill was a faithful member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church in Grenada. He was also a US Army Veteran and a member of the VFW.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 PM Monday, March 26, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church in Grenada with Rev. Don Howie officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Oddfellows Cemetery in Grenada. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until service time Monday at the church.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Ella Whitten; two daughters, Allison Ashmore of Grenada and Denise Whitten Hogan (Guy) of Clinton; one son, William Durwood Whitten, Jr. (Michael Hyman) of Baltimore, MD; four grandchildren, William D. Whitten, III, William Ward Ashmore, George Brent Ashmore and John Luke Whitten; and two great-grandchildren, Ella Ambrose Ashmore and William Durwood "Liam" Whitten, IV.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be William D. Whitten, III, William Ward Ashmore, George Brent Ashmore, John Luke Whitten, Trey Moore and Sidney Hendricks.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
